this is what i've learned Author: sharon ann geraciHometown: new orleans, louisianaSometimes, you purchase things for your home and you save them.... and for what? You sometimes sit on the floor, to "save" the sofa... or you put away the china for a special occasion or even put a new comforter into a closet, to save for a special day. This is what I've learned, that day is today. Today and everyday is special. I had a storm named Katrina that crashed into my home and many families and friends lost it all. The only thing that I could find was a ballerina statue and my son's first baby food jar along with his plastic spoon. I've learned that you don't wait to use your things or enjoy your home, for it can all be taken away in a matter of minutes. I wish now that I would have used my china, at least, for a little while, I could have enjoyed it. I wish I could relive that time all over again. Never take life or love for granted. It can disappear so very fast. I thank all the people who helped put our lives back together again. While sitting outside of a Motel 6 and not knowing if we even had a home to go back to (which we didn't) people drove up and tried to bring us food, water, clothes, and comfort. Perfect strangers with hearts so big. May God bless you all. I may never see you again, but I will never forget you. Enjoy today. It's such a blessing. |
