Color Trends: Gray
Black goes with everything. But in 2012, the many shades of gray are being paired with some unexpected colors and finishes. These combination look serene, sumptuous and sun-kissed.
Area rugs, textiles and furniture manufacturer Company C, for instance, calls attention to gray “power pairs” in its 2012 Sunlit Colors. The palette is inspired by the blooms of poppies and asters; the beguiling wings of a butterfly; and variegated river rocks. Clover, Moss, Sun, Lake and Coral coordinate with Driftwood gray and a gray-tinged cream.
Gray looks both exotic and luxurious in a new Jonathan Charles furniture collection, Metropolitan, which will hit stores in 2012. A faux shagreen finish, which mimics the skin of shark or stingray, is a slate-like gray that designer Jonathan Sowter pairs with heavily striated Macassar ebony wood.
Luxurious blues and soft grays pair up in the Vivendi Collection from the Tracy Porter by Feizy Rugs line. Here, vivid jewel tones and nature-inspired patterns are enhanced by antique finishing techniques; the gradations in color create a well-worn look. These hand-spun premium wool designs, where gray plays either a dominant or supporting role, suit traditional, transitional and contemporary settings alike.
